It’s Puppet Season Again

Yesterday Molly and Twyla made pretty good use of the puppet stage!  I would have proof, but the camera ran out of juice.

April 16th & 17th is the weekend of our next Junkyard Casserole.  So soon!  The self-serve puppet stage will be open and eager for action, so pack your favorite small friend before heading over to 2608 Rogers for the most entertaining shopping experience you will find under the sun.

Season’s Turning

Alien Art Show #2 came and went, looked fabulous!

Here’s the “movie” I made (with the help of my friends):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI3Ih81lXxE

And coming up, in 1  1/2 weeks:

Yes, it’s another JUNK-A-THON:

There are some other things I was going to show you, too.  So here:

This keg-cap net is the first I have made… and it turned out drape-ier / droopier than I expected.  It looks great flopped over the mini-ferris wheel, but I suppose I should still give it to the Dog & Duck like I said I would.

I like Good Circles.  Can’t never have too many of ’em!

Fully Febby

So much going on, behind the scenes! Not much time for bloggin just yet, but if you can come on out to Salvage Vanguard Theater tomorrow night (2/14), I will be making a Synaesthetic Dessert on the stage. ♥ Lights, sounds, color, motion!!

—     —      —    and next week…  —      —      — (rain or shine…)

Junk-a-thon!  This time the theme is let’s barter more — so, bring stuff you don’t want or need!  Drop it off or trade it for something you DO want or need.  I want to have a bulletin board sort of thing, so people can leave a flier or note advertising themselves and their services or products  or whatever!  Let’s make connections, people!  It’s a new economy.

HEY, LOVE YOURSELF! YOU DESERVE IT!

Junk-a-Thon wrap-up…

midpanorama

The CENTER shifted even further east, since there are friends all around now. 🙂

Highlights: The most STUFF ever.  Our team of sellers did very well — Leah with her giant-tarp Bag Sale of clothes, Monkeypants with his media (books/music/magnets), and etcetera.  Mike was absent but delivered a crib full of more mutant soft toys, several of which had the laughing voice boxes that took a long time to quit.  I think the creepiest one of all was the one that died early, the rubber Satanic-baby-head on a string. <!>

One person was disappointed not to find any dead-people slides or skull belts. (!)

The guy from Reno left with a whole new life, though. (!)

I had so many expectations beforehand (as always); I wanted to make a bunch of spooky-awesome stuff  like Halloween/Reincarnation Wreaths, car crash earrings, hanging baskets, a panty-hose mask-making station, and of course an Awe-Inspiring Puppet Production in Mini’s (awesome) Theatre…  But, well, we did what we could!  I set up store in the studio, and that felt good.

rereConnections!

Had some fun for sure.

The writings/”To Do lists” leading up to Junk-a-thon are sitting next to me in a box (there are many). I guess I’ll have to do something with them now!

SOME current fliers &”commentary”

j7bThis one was a fun collaboration back-and-forth between myself + Chad.  There should be a good little collection of fliers we’ve made together by now.

Man! And I made the puppet show production one, but you’ll have to look at http://www.r-e-r-t.org/puppets or I will scan again.  The promotion for that is still evolving.  How do you advertise a PROCESS — something that is perpetually in progress, but that requires community connection?   (many answers, flowing)

Oo-oo!  By the way, Fernando has decided: every Sunday, 3pm: Fence Paint!  Anything goes!  All ages.  Yes!

Anyway, Chad got this other flier whipped out, too:

And, also from the ALF book…

alf72Ha!

That’s for the “programming” that I will be providing as part of the E.A.S.T. (East Austin Studio Tour) celebration in November, at CoLab (for she’s a jolly good art space).

So, here’s the run-down of things I am excited about:

Oct. 2nd: Chips’ b-day party and puppet-making soiree!
Oct. 3rd: Night Viking at FREE WATER2
Oct. 6th: |:The Lost art (of):| performs at Beerland with Palit and Liz Burrito & the Bubble Machines!
Oct. 10th: Open Call / Dress Rehearsal for puppet show.  Also, benefit for the Lipstick Pages.
Oct. 17th: JUNK-A-THON Opens! Pot-luck and PUPPET SHOW!
Oct. 18th: Junk-a-thon Day #2, w/ Craft Tables!
Oct. 23rd: Emergency Casserole!
Oct. 31st: Halloween and Butthole Surfers at Stubbs!
Nov. 15th: “An Ostrich and a Rainbow”, a movement-based play by Starlight Dance Troupe, at the Carver Theater.
Nov. 17th: E.A.S.T. workshop/performance at Co-Lab.

and more and more!  So much to look forward to.

(sigh)

Junk-a-Thon #6: Circus of Values!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Children of All Ages,

Step right up to the Junk-A-Thon Circus, fun for the whole family, this Week-End, June 13&14th, 9am-9pm!  More participants than ever before are camping out this weekend to share their home-made wares, such as fossils, unique clothing and art, greeting cards, party supplies, unusual stuffed animals… plus sift through other yard-sale items for something that is useful to you.  This is probably the most fun alternative to going to a store that you could hope for.  Keep your eyes peeled for the random performance art!

Ye Olde Junk-a-Thon, Trading Post

(with Time Tunnel)

Come see the Amazing Feet, whiskers–

colornest2

No, really.  If you wanna just get out of the house, rifle through some garage sale items, vintage clothes, comic books, ART, fortune eggs, puppet kits, unique stencil-covered wearable objects… and/or converse with neighborly types + iguana-dog-cats, crawl through a tunnel into the land of the future, enter other mystical portals, etc., we’ll be here.  Probably’ll have goodies to eat, on the grill, as well.  Bring your ham or pemmican, currency or other goods to trade.*  10am-7pm, Saturday and Sunday.  Rain or Shine!

*If you are BARTER inclined, I know that I for one (Amanda), could certainly use: flower pots/planters, cinder blocks, mortar, rocks, plants, soil, etc.  Chad mainly needs currency and/or publishing connections, since he is about to get a bunch of teeth pulled; but, he might trade for some awesome old magazines or picture books.  I’m not too sure about the druthers of Lori, Leah and Kevin, who are bringing stuff to sell, but if you are totally broke and have nothing to trade, you can still come and just enjoy the festivities and weird landscape!
